Practice Notes & Schedule // Week of 6.22.26
holding steady with the break and sway + new weekly offering in Altadena!
This week’s guiding I Ching reading served me an unchanging Hexagram 47, which represents (depending on the translation) Exhaustion, Oppression, Impasse, and feeling/being Trapped. It’s definitely a toss of the coins that makes you wince upon first glance — “Yikes, what am I in for?! On and on without end!?” But as always, there’s light in the dark: the judgment of this Hexagram asks one to reflect, acknowledge, and trust in inner strength as a tool to bend to circumstances without breaking. There will always be something to do, a wheel to spin — quite often the same spinning coming round and round again! The same meetings, the same conversations, the same problems, the same jokes, the same feelings. Living as a regular everyday person in the break and sway of the regular everyday routines means encountering obstacles beyond our immediate on-demand resources, arriving at unyielding impasses. Hexagram 47 reminds us that even in the depths of exhaustion, we are alive, present, and so, involved. While a situation may not respond to a single application of our limited force, with beating heart and turning breath, our constancy of simply being present over time, meeting the moment with the resources available, creates a yielding, a change, a turn in time. The river carves a path through the rocky earth, drop by drop coming together, slowly winding a path to the broad open sea.
